  • Gonzalez - 1957 1.6  KCC Porsche Speedster
  • Abigail - 1957 2l  KCC Porsche Speedster
  • The Baron - 2l Covin 911/930 Porsche

The car is a 911 type 930 Porsche cabriolet replica mould in fibre glass with a purpose made tubular chassis. VW mechanical components are the natural choice to complete the car. (Type 930 only means wide body with wide wheels and turbo on production cars.) The cars were build to accept VW Type 1, VW Type 3, or a purpose made tubing chassis.

The Covin kits were produced in Britain in the early 80 s. Dimensions were slightly changed from the Porsche which helped the manufacture to win a court case against Porsche on copyrights. Production was however stopped soon after that. Rumours has it, that the original moulds changed hands a few times and are still in existence somewhere in Ireland, but the owner is not interested to either use or sell it.

It’s not confirmed, but about 20 cars were built, on a franchise basis, in S.A. The S.A. version is therefore slightly different in dimensions and design than the British one. It is rumoured that the car from which the original mould was made, was an accident repaired car and that all subsequent bodies moulded from it show the imperfection---true / false nobody is sure.

These things do however distinguish the Covin from other similar cars.

Since Baron's car is the tubular chassis version, he get's to elaborate!

·         Rear suspension:

VW type4 / VW411 gearbox, swing arms, drive shafts and hubs. It’s also possible to use VW type 1 & 3 g/box and suspension but that will need a lot of modifications.

·         Front suspension:

Complete VW type 3 with disc brakes

·         Steering:

VW type 3

·         Engine:

Any VW flat 4 cylinder preferably type 4 2lt

·         Body:

High quality single skin fibre glass with double skinned doors, bonnet, and boot lids.) pre 63 big Beatle head lights.  (or Porsche lights.) Steel reinforcement was used in strategic areas. All other lights and glass work are Porsche.

·         Chassis:

Tubing of various sizes and shapes and a 2mm plate floor forms the chassis and frame which supports the body. This chassis is much heavier than the alternative options; Type 3 or Type 1 floor pans.

I'm sure when Baron completes his ride, she's gonna look something like this:
